DC 10 Super Tanker

Capable of carrying 12,000 gallons of retardant or water in its cavernous external tank system, the "10 Super Tanker", as it is called, has proven to be extremely effective in building fire-breaking line and contributing significantly to wild fire containment.

All or partial loads can be dropped in a matter of seconds, providing excellent ground coverage, and permitting ground crews rapid access to fire fighting positions. Typically, the drops are made from 200-500 feet over the target, at a speed of 140-150 kts.
