Tighten Your Belt in More Ways Than One

There was a time when, after a holiday binge, one could take the first tentative steps to getting fit by walking down to the nearest gym and handing over a large amount of money in exchange for a membership card. It was an easy way to start a fitness regime: that shiny new piece of plastic would – in theory at least – empower you to visit the gym and kick start your new healthy lifestyle.

This year, however, with recession in full swing, expensive gym membership might not be an option, even for the most dedicated of fitness fanatics. So to ensure you start 2009 on the right foot, we’ve put together a guide to getting fit without spending all your hard-earned cash. There are plenty of options, from free road-running with a group of like-minded friends, to local classes that you can attend for a modest fee. So all you really need to find is some motivation.
