“Drawing is the honesty of the art. There is no possibility of cheating.
It is either good or bad.”
-Salvador Dali
This quote from Salvador Dali inspires me daily and my continued growth as an
artist. For over 15 years, I have been a professional portrait artist. Although,
in the summer of 2004, I married my husband, a firefighter, and my art focus
changed. I saw that he had the same passion for fighting fires and helping
others that I did for creating art. Our passion for life not only became one
through marriage, but also through the focus of our careers. I began to create
artwork celebrating the profession of firefighting. I have been selling open
edtion prints of my work throughout the United States for the past five years,
as well as being commissioned by corporations and Fire Departments. My goal and
passion for each work of art is to make it so incredibly life-like that you can
feel the energy of the subject. I also hope that the individual who views or
purchases my work has a personal and intimate connection with it. My artwork and
passion is also special because of whom it supports. My husband and I actively
support the Hoosier Burn Camp which offers a life-enriching summer camp
experience for young men and women who have experienced injuries from burns. We
donate 20% of all proceeds from the sale of my artwork to support this amazing
organization and its mission. Presently, I am working on completing two new
pieces that I hope to have printed by the end of the year or early spring of
2011.
