VERY doubtful, unless you can somehow get it removed from your record.  You MIGHT be able to volunteer at some department that might not check, but I doubt you could ever work for a paid department.  Sorry.

The background check is pretty deep since you are dealing with anyone and everyone. even parking tickets can be questioned on some depts.

Yep. Generally, any felonies and DUI's are definite things that end it for you.

It's not really the degree of the charge that is the problem here... it is the actual charge that is the issue. Since it is an aggrivated crime with a weapon it will raise some serious issues with any government be it local, state or federal. Most of your paid departments will fit this local government area.... Since the job may require you to enter a persons home for services they don't want joe citizen to feel that they may be harmed and or injured in the act of your duties. I know this seems a little crude, but this is the general idea or "stigma" that is carried after a crime of this nature. It will most likely prevent you from becomming an EMT as well since most departments of health require you to release all criminal history for a license. Aggrivated crimes and sex crimes are almost always a no go for a license.... (almost).......

I'm the chief for a small volunteer department and I run credit and deep background checks on every volunteer along with pop drug  tests. I know this seems harsh, but would you want a fire bug on your department or even a guy so over his head in debt that he might be casing your house while on that medical call? I can't take the chance with the people of my district so myself and the board monitor things rather closely. You can almost count on a municipal department doing much more than us.

Nope, sorry man. Your dream is over! Even us small rural departments do background checks! And no offense, but, no matter what a nice guy you may be now, I wouldn't work with you for a constant fear that you may relapse at a moment in some little old ladies bedroom who keeps fifty grand in her mattress 'cause uncle sam would cut her S.S. check if they knew she had more than five!
