Fiery Priorities: Should Firefighters Lose Firetrucks?

New news article: http://firelink.monster.com/news/articles/7109

Budgets are cut, but this is too far. What do you think?

I don't know who in the world would think that

a) the fire truck is too big

b) just park that $750,000.00 truck in the road

c) Make em all volunteer

I will admit I would not want to be a volunteer in a big city. You would have to pay me to move 20 times in a day. As it stands with my small call volume (compared to a cities) I want to pull my hair out half the time. I have more hours in volunteer time this year than I actually have worked hours. Maybe I need to send this guy the bucket of paperwork I have to do everyday. (for free mind you). Maybe Mr. Williams needs to come spend the day with a rural volunteer department and feel happy that the city has what they do.

Another city hall dwelling bean counter without a clue.  I have an idea - let's thin out the layers of government to save money.

I also must say that I agree with captmike. Instead of making cuts on organizations such as volunteer departments and such and make all the government officials start working for minimum wage. Let's see just how many of them start really WORKING for the country when they have to stand in line to receive their welfare checks and the only way they can get any form of a raise is when they present bills or other things that actually work instead of just getting any old thing passed so they can move up in party ranks.

I read the artical and was amazed at the stupidity.  I maybe could see going all vol but even then in a big city the people vol would be their all the time anyways.  As far as trucks what is the point having a firefighter if their is no equipment to use to put the fire out?

I guess it's back to bucket brigades. OOhh maybe we'll get some top secret super soakers that only spray at 200psi, hold 750gallons of water and only weigh 8lbs. Oh and don't forget the handy dandy swiss army knife that'll pry open any door and makes the Hurst tools look like child's toys.

I mean seriously, how much dumber can these guys get? They question why they should spend more tax dollars to support us, why are we spendin more tax dollars to support idiots like this?

Maybe they want us to go back to horses and hand pumps :)

I wonder if the commentator knows how many jobs a "Big Expensive Fire Truck" creates? The value of the properties it saves? The taxes collected from the manufacturer, the people who built it, and the Firefighters who use it? The number of people saved from injury or death? The amount of money saved off of the homes that the truck serves? The number of children and adults rescued? I bet that even this Brain Dead Moron Commentator is being protected by a number of these "Big Expensive Fire Trucks!"

On the other side of this issue this guy has gotten through life so far with out the aid of a fully functioning brain!

This could possibly be the stupidest thing i have ever heard in my life. i wonder what this guy would say if his house burnt down, and he had to wait for people to go find the "big expensive trucks" parked somewhere, and then get there.

i bet he wouldnt be thinking the same thing afterwards
