Outside of a family member, who most has influenced your time in the fire service?  Why them?

When I first started in the business, I had a capt that was always ready to do whatever it took to make you look or be better.  He was always working right beside me whether washing trucks, doing records or fighting fire.  He was always ready to help me learn something that would help me to become a better FF.  He wasn't yet at the rank he desired to be but was more than willing to help me to get where I wanted to go.

Experience is always the best teacher, I just hope its at someone elses expense.

I am not a FF. I am a owner of a Heavy equipment company and I know what you mean . The person that broke me in always said Lead by Example. There was never any thing he asked me to do that he would not do himself and was always ready to make the next man better.

My father and his best friend who was chief for many years in my original dept. All you would have to do was watch the way they worked a fire and you would understand.

well if were not using family i will leave out my grandpa or step dad and my mom and the few othere that are related.  So it would have to be a guy that was an officer when i first joined the department that i actually grew up with for a couple years before i moved away.  Well i came back and joined the FD and he was here.  Not only were we members in the same department but actually became best friends.  He helped me out a ton coming up through the ranks and pushing me to do things that maybe i never would have without that bit of encouragement.
