 OK!!! Let's see here I am trying to become a firefighter! Come to find out I walk in the main house the only house we have in our town of Clinton, MS and come to find out the day before i walked in one of the brothers passed away on duty god bless his soul. And now the house is going to be recruiting come Jan. sometime to fill the slot, so i talked to the capt. and asked all these questions about what i had to do and he was gracious enough with all that was going on to take the time to fill me in. He told me what I had to do, go fill out the application at the city hall in which I did, then contact the lady at the fire academy to get that paper work going and to see when the next classes were going to be. So i contacted her and she e-mailed me the paperwork. i filled out the stuff i new about and as i was looking over it it had all this stuff on it about what sponsoring dept was going to sign the paperwork. i didn't know what it was talking about so i called the lady back at the school and she says o yes in order for you to get into the class you have to be with a/an department and i told her ok thanks. i called the house back and spoke with the chief again and asked him about the section on the paperwork and if his house could sponsor me and he said the only way we could do that is if i hired you on full time to work because of legal reasons and that they weren't going to do that until Jan. so i have only 3 other options around my county and thats volunteer firefighter. but i cant seem to get them on the phone? The question that i ask is if you have "NO" experience what so ever in being a firefighter and you cant just walk off the street to go through the academy and cant get sponsored by anyone then what is the deal what am i supposed to do? Your supposed to follow your dreams right? But you can't if you want to become a firefighter it would seem to me. This is the thing theres a class in Nov that i'm trying to get into to take CPAT, Firefighter 1and2, so i will have a better chance in getting hired on come Jan. and if i cant get sponsored by anyone then how and the world do you become a firefighter??? What am i supposed to do just chance it come Jan. and beat out the other cadets by physically beating them in the try outs because this is a once in a life time deal here there wont be another slot for another 30 years!!! How do i find a sponsor before Nov. so i can stand out before the rest??? Any ideas anyone reading this post know some contacts in the Jackson, MS area or surrounding areas? Need some help here!!! Go to your city hall or police station, I guarantee that the dispatcher for that town knows the phone # to all the volunteer cheifs. Get ahold of one of them and have them meet you for an application. Get involved with a fire dept. somehow and learn all you can before January. It might help you get that job you are after. I advise you not tell the volly cheif what your plans are, although he probably already knows. Good luck!
