I do not have a photo of the accident, but
I was stopped at an intersection waiting patiently for the FF in front of my car to direct me around the scene when a car flew past me in the left hand turn lane and HIT the FF. I Saw his face and heard the sounds of him getting whipped out by that car and it has haunted me for YEARS. I've gotten over most of being a FF wife and worrying; accept accident scenes where they're directing traffic.
But now I'm joining a CERT team until I can get into some classes and I'm told that they'll be training me to stand in traffic and direct traffic...we'll see how that goes.

| Posted about 1 month ago Congrats on joining the team! Just stay extremely safe out there. I've almost been hit a few times on mva's and car fires. Stay safe and pay close attn to the people on the road. Take care! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Cert members are supposed to only be used within their neighborhood, for major events where emergency services are overwhelmed or can't get there due to flooding, etc. No one would have any business posting you at a "scene" in the roadway. It is possible you could be manning a barricade at a closed road, but the most common use of CERT is local needs within the neighborhood, checking on people, helping guide them, manning a shelter, etc. You should NEVER be utilized at a hot location. However, it is possible that you find yourself in the right (or wrong) place at the right (or wrong) time. Just be smart and remember, your safety is #1, over others first. Blocking a flooded road or wreck scene is not worth dying for. If someone doesn't see wrecked cars, they're not gonna see you either. Jeff D.

| Posted 18 days ago Alot of people are in a hurry these days and dont care if there is a wreck or not. I've been on many scenes where I almost got hit. There have been times where we have deployed emergency signs in the middle of the road 50 ft away and yet someone always manages to run over the sign and be at our scene. Some people are idiots.... How about landing a helo in the middle of a highway and guy getting out of his car cause he was upset the road was blocked and trting to swing at FFs on scene... Yup that has happened. I have personally had my foot run over when trying to get out of a guy who was going thru the middle of a 2 vehicle MVC. There was probably a 10-12 foot gap between both cars and he went right in the middle of the cars as I was holding c-spine from the driver side window and ran over my foot. I remebered his liscenes plate number and called it in later and he was issued a ticket. I'm just waiting for the day when someone is texting while driving and goes thru a emergecny scene obviously not paying attention to whats going on.

| Posted 18 days ago How is that firefighter? Is he ok? Just face your fears Tonia, and jump in. Stay focused and alert, and be aggressive out there, not like officer Hicks from the Police Academy movies!!! LOL Use your voice and command the road block, get everyones attention, sometimes they realy dont see whats going on, they are too distracted by cell phones and radios and make-up...(sorry, had to get that one in there! LOL) until someone gets their attention forcefully. Best of luck to you in your CERT training, and say hello to Steve for me sis. Moose Brian "Moose" Jones

| Posted 17 days ago That FF flew a long way. Broke several bones and spent a few weeks in hospital. Last I knew he was doing fine, though I think he's prolly got arthritis now. I'm still friends with some of the FF on that department and could prolly find out more about how he's doing now. I thought the village LEO chief was gonna KILL him right then and there. He pulled that guy out of that car and SLAMMED him ontop of the car and drew back like he was gonna send him straight to HELL in one blow. He didn't actually hit him (thankfully for chief he got hold of himself...chief's a farmer and a very large man to boot, he'd have dont damage to him with that blow.) Mrs Tonia Jacob (luvmyff99) |
