Posted about 1 month ago I have fought many barn fires. there always seems to be hay bales the we pull out that just keep burning. usually we unroll them or pull them apart, and drown them with water. sometimes we put them in a field and let them burn. is there a better way of putting them out or any suggestions.?? |

| Posted about 1 month ago I have to agree with you. Seems like a roll bale fire is one of the most annoying fires to put put. What you said is pretty much how we extinguish them too. We have also had luck using a piercing nozzle and shove it into the middle of the bale and use class A foam. It works pretty good but the best way that we have found is to unroll them. I hope this helps and maybe someone else may have a better answer for both of us. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 Chad Womack

| Posted about 1 month ago one word: CAFS if that is not an option, regular class A foam will do. CAPT. SHAUN MCNALLY

| Posted about 1 month ago I agree. CAFS will smother the entire bail, and once it dries, you can still use most of it. You may have to keep a truck there for several hours to be sure nothing flares back up, but with the right amount and mixture of CAFS, it will smother that bale. Jeff D.

| Posted about 1 month ago What ever you do, DO NOT let the farmer push them into the pond! They just float and continue to burn! Don't ask me how I know this! LOL |

| Posted about 1 month ago Dawn dish soap. It will not mess up your pump. We buy it in the big bottles from Sam's. We put about a half a bottle per tank (250 gal.) in our brush truck. Works great. No un-rolling. We have a lot (25 a year) hay bale fires and we have been doing this for years. Omnis Cedo Domus |

I agree with this as well, I have seen dish soap used in place of foam for hay fires, silo fires and structure fires and it works great. The suds act like foam in that it allows the water to "Cling" to the surface and smothers the fire better than just water, but cheaper than foam. Other than that, its just a pain in the butt to unroll it and douche them with water but you have to in order to get it out and not get called back at 2 am when the farmer states his entire field is now burning!! | Posted about 1 month ago We usually try to get in some kind of tractor, back-hoe, bobcat... something... get the flames knocked down enough, withouth soaking the ground around it... Then get something in to help unroll and break it apart.... Then, bring on the wet stuff!!!! We use dawn, too......... |

| Posted about 1 month ago I'm always torn between using the piercing nozzle and just throwing gas on it. The largest room is the room for self improvement |
