Hi everyone.  I see a lot of young people asking how to get hired into a career fire dept.  Do any of you who have prior military experience think it heLped you get hired into your department?  The chief who hired me said once that he hired me because he saw on my resume I had been a Navy Deep Sea Diver.  He figured if I could do that I could be a firefighter.  He also liked the discipline factor of being ex-military.  Do any of you have similar experinces with military background helping you get hired?

Yes, I think it helped me. My knowledge in explosives and how they burn was a big topic of discussion. Not to mention some of my "other" army experiences.

I would say yes as it did help me. I would become a FF in the military as it will give you an advantage in the career field. But also it will give you a heads up on rank structure as alot of Depts have them in place. I wasnt a FF in the military but it did help me land a career. Now what you have to find out is what branch or service can offer you the most that you want....
