Written by Norman Maclean. This is an account of the August 5, 1949 tragedy that happened to a group of smokejumpers trying to fight the Mann Gulch forest fire.

The book was mainly written by Maclean who was on the crew. It is really well written. I like the detail he goes into trying to describe the emotions of not only living through the ordeal, but just about the sensation of fighting a massive forest fire in general. A good read no matter what, but I highly suggest anyone looking into going into the industry at all should read it so they have an idea of what they will be facing.
