A man who was stuck in a chimney in South Yorkshire was rescued by fire service managers working during an eight-hour strike by fire crews.
The strike, which ended at midnight on Sunday, was the second of five consecutive days of industrial action by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).
Managers were called to St John’s Avenue in Masborough after the man fell down his neighbour’s chimney.
He had been walking on the roof of a row of terraced houses.Further action
Incident commander Neil Hessell said the man, who was in his 30s, was “walking along the roof, throwing slates, chimney pots and television aerials onto the street below”.
Officers undertook “significant excavation work” on the chimney breast before finding the man at ground floor level. He suffered leg injuries, abrasions and shock, officers said.
Six cars were also damaged in the incident.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue management staff attended 13 incidents, including three false alarms, during the strike.
The FBU are striking over a proposed change in their working hours.
They are planning a third eight-hour period of industrial action at 1600 BST on Monday.
