Officer Injured After Crashing Into Fire Engine

Associated Press

October 20, 2010

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore police officer has been taken to a trauma center after crashing his police cruiser into a city fire engine.

It happened around 10 a.m. in west Baltimore. City fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright says the fire engine had responded to a report of an injured person. Firefighters were trying to locate that person when the police car rear-ended the fire engine, which was stopped in the road.

The officer was treated at the scene and then taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police and fire officials say they don’t know his condition.

It’s not clear whether the officer was responding to that scene or to another incident, or whether he was driving with lights and sirens flashing.
