LORTON, Va. – Three people — two children and an adult — are dead in Lorton townhouse fire, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue tells WTOP.

Another three children and an adult were taken to Washington Hospital’s Burn Center.

Firefighters are still on the scene of the fire in the 9600 block of Hagel Circle.

“We’re still controlling this fire. It did go on to adjacent units,” says Willie Bailey, spokesman for Fairfax Fire and Rescue.

Bailey says it’s “a really horrific event.”

When firefighters got on the scene, the found “heavy fire coming out of every window of this home,” Bailey says.

“They went through the windows and pulled out one child. They located another child and an adult inside. They were three confirmed DOAs (dead on arrival).”

More than 60 firefighters are battling the two-alarm fire.

“We do not know what caused this. It’s still under investigation,” Bailey says.
