Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle-Truck Crash

WEST PHILADELPHIA – An off-duty firefighter was killed after the motorcycle he was on collided with another vehicle, police say.
The firefighter has been identified as Odell Pommells, a 7-year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
At 6:27 p.m., Ladder 6, Medic 3 and Medic 34 responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Lancaster and Wyalusing avenues.
There they discovered that the victim was one of their own.
Officials say Pommells, 33, was on his way home from work when the motorcycle he was riding collided with an automobile.
Pommells suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
He later died at the hosptial due to his injuries.
Pommells was assigned to Engine 5 located at 43rd and Market streets.
