YORK, PA – The York Area Firefighter Combat Challenge Team won 21 gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2010 Can-Am Police-Fire Games, held last week in Dublin, Ohio.

Team founder Mike Anderson, a York City Fire/Rescue Services firefighter, said he won five medals; Diane Keith, a volunteer EMT with York Area United Fire and Rescue, won one; and YAUFR firefighters Scott Little and Lyle Cosner had 10 and five medals, respectively.

The Combat Challenge Team competes in the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge circuit, where firefighters nationwide run a course that simulates what firefighters do when battling a blaze.

The Can-Am Games have an event similar to the Combat Challenge, called the Toughest Firefighter Alive. Team members also competed in numerous other track and field events.

“It was a great event; it was a great venue,” Anderson said. “It was all about the competitors and their families.”

York County will host the Can-Am Games in 2014.
