ST. CLOUD, FL – An Osceola County firefighter was hurt today at a demonstration for children at a summer camp.

The man, whose name was not released, was putting equipment into a ladder truck when he came into contact with part of the apparatus as another firefighter raised the ladder, said Danny McAvoy, Osceola County deputy fire chief.

The aluminum ladder touched a power line, delivering an electric shock, authorities said. The firefighter was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, but his injuries are not life threatening.

“There are some injuries,” McAvoy said from the hospital. “To what degree I don’t know yet.”

The incident happened about 4:15 p.m. at Osceola County Sheriff’s Adventure Camp at Lake X, a rural location east of St. Cloud at 7550 Old Melbourne Highway.

None of the 28 children, ages 10 through 14, was injured, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
