Firefighter Facing Charges for Mishandling Pipe Bomb
May 22, 2010
SALISBURY, N.H. — Police said a volunteer firefighter in Salisbury is facing a criminal charge for mishandling a pipe bomb.
Police said on March 16, Walter Scott Jr. called them about a suspicious device he claimed to have found in Franklin and then brought back to a garage at his property on Old Turnpike Road.
The state police bomb squad used a water cannon to render the device harmless. Last Saturday, police arrested Scott, a longtime Salisbury firefighter, and charged him with reckless endangerment for tampering with the bomb.
Investigators said the device was full of metal plugs which could have been deadly projectiles.
Scott faces arraignment on June 28. He is currently on leave from the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department.
