BOSTON – A 20-year veteran of the Boston Fire Department was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident after responding to a medical call in Roxbury late this morning, the fire department said.

Firefighters were putting gear back on the truck parked in front of 36 Edgewood St. at around 11:54 a.m. when a maroon Dodge Durango hit the firefighter, said Steve MacDonald, spokesman for the Boston Fire Department.

Ladder 23 responded to a medical call for an unconscious person at the address around 11:40 a.m., MacDonald said. Boston EMS was already on scene in response to the initial medical call.

The firefighter was transported to Boston Medical Center with knee and wrist injuries, MacDonald said. The injuries are not life-threatening. Boston Police are investigating
