Police: $800 Robbery Preceded Slayings, Fire

Barnes told investigators that Laster decided later that day that they had to kill Robertson or she would tell on them. The men picked her up, told her they were getting marijuana and parked near some townhouses, the complaint said.
They got out of the vehicle and as Robertson and Lester walked ahead of Barnes, Laster directed Barnes to shoot her, by saying “Now,” the complaint said. Barnes shot her in the back of the head and they ran.
Two acquaintances of Robertson told police they had telephone conversations with her earlier that afternoon during which she cried and confessed to her part in the slayings at the duplex, saying she hated Thompson because she was in love with the father of Thompson’s infant son, according to the complaint. The father is in prison.
Laster’s previous convictions include cocaine possession, second-degree recklessly endangering safety and criminal damage to property. Barnes has been convicted of misappropriation of personal identification and disorderly conduct, among other charges.
