I am happy to have joined you community. Right now I am currently deployed over seas under Operation Iraqi Freedom, so there’s not a lot I can do with the fire service back in the states. I am however very excited to spread the word about what we are doing here. My unit, witch is a Civil Affairs BN recently created a fire academy in Baghdad for the nation of Iraq. We now teach local nationals how to become well trained Firefighters to better serve there communities. The academy consists of a fire one course, hazmat, search and rescue and finally an explosive ordinance disposal course. The first wave of students just graduated 07March2009 and reported to their new fire houses. There are three of us in this unit that are firemen back home who head this operation, instructing not only the soon to be firemen who will join the ranks within their department, but also the soon to be instructors of the academy who will take over our roll when we go back home. I know things like this normally don’t get shown on TV back home, so I want to make sure our fellow service members know they are all being represented over here. This project has seen media coverage around the world with great Marot to the Iraqi fire department.
