About Me
So with 20 years of putting all types of fires i finally decided to make the change and let the young kids take my place while I move upstairs. i have realized that I'm getting old when I started school and I have been doing firefighting longer that most of my classmates have been alive. So here I am in school getting my degree in fire prevention. so that i can pursue my new career on the prevention side of the fire service. I ended up leaving the dept, so that I can concentrate my studies better. I do miss the activity of the dept and when things mellow down I'll join another in the future. With taking 20 credits a term I dont have much time for anything extra right now. Just started helping out at the college training the 1st and 2nd year fire cadets. I'm now one of the training officers and the safety officers for the fire training program. With my shoulder having to have surgery on again this is the closest I'm going to get to firefighting for a while. And this way I can make sure the new kids learn it correct and safely. The Chief figured that with 20 years of fighting fires that I kind of know what to do when it comes to teaching the cadets the correct way to do it. I know that I will probably never be able to do active firefighting any more so at least now I have the chance to get them tough right form the start. after 20 years of being in the fire service and never getting my EMT. I'll be giving it finally. Have just signed up to take it this summer. They are offering an accelerated class. Where you get your EMT basic, in 10 weeks were normally it takes you 22 weeks. I'm looking forward to it I should have done this, Probably 20 years ago
