Good Afternoon Jim, thanks for the add to your friends list. It is good to meet you and I hope you have a great weekend and be safe out there. Take care and keep in touch.
For a second consecutive year, Oakland's own FD won the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Association Field Day competition. This year, held in Ho-Ho-Kus, Oakland was one of 14 towns that participated in the events. We owe our thanks to Chief Peter Sondervan, Jack Longa, Ryan Sondervan, Matt Sorce, Brian Kelly, and Vinny Incorvaia who brought the team to another win. The team posted some amazing times, including 3:35 in the smokeroom search.
In the search excercise, a team of five, outfitted with SCBA (Self contained breathing apparatus) had to enter a dark, smoke filled room to find and recover a victim (dummy).
For the ladder event, the team had to rig a rope system, ascend to the top of a laddder truck, secure the pulley and hoist two pieces of heavy equipment to the top of the ladder.
The pumper contest the teams had to again gear up, jump in the engine, accelerate to 55mph and stop in a designated fire lane without knocking over any markers. Upon exiting the engine, they had to attach to a hydrant, set up a two hose system and knock down a target with a water stream.
Points were awarded for the best time, penalties were added to the times for unsafe practices and poor techniques.
The team went on to score the best overall, by turrning out near flawless execution on the ladder work and the pumper exercise. Jack speeding through the cones with precision, only his exhaust blowing off a few tennis balls at the end. A fast trigger, and dead-aim on the hose dropped the dunkbooth before the camera could even record the stream.
It was a perfect day for a perfect win. Thanks to all those who came out and showed their support!
