Fire Monkey
A tourist visiting Baltimore walked into a pet shop and was looking at the animals on display. While he was there, a fireman walked in and said to the shopkeeper, "I'll take a fire monkey, please." The shopkeeper nodded, went over to a cage at the side of the shop and took out a monkey. He fit it with a collar and leash, handed it to the fireman saying, "That'll be $1,000." The fireman paid and walked out with his monkey.
Startled, the tourist went over to the shopkeeper and said, "That was a very expensive monkey. Most of them are only a few hundred dollars. Why did it cost so much?" The shopkeeper answered, "Ah, that monkey can fight fire expertly with the Booster line, with the inch and a half line, and the two and a half inch line, and is certified on all pumping apparatus and aerial ladder trucks.--- well worth the money! The tourist looked at the monkey in another cage. "That one's even more expensive!
$10,000! What does it do?" "Oh, that one's a certified instructor monkey; it can instruct other monkeys in basic fire fighting skills, fire prevention training, physical training, haz mat unit tactics and fire investigative techniques, and even type. All the really useful stuff, "said the shopkeeper.
The tourist looked around for a little longer and saw a third monkey in a large cage of its own. The price tag around its neck read $70,000. He gasped to the shopkeeper, "That one costs more than all the others put together! What on earth does it do?" The shopkeeper replied, "Well, I haven't actually seen it do anything, but it says it's a "Fire Chief".

My thoughts about 9/11
"THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated." - Thomas Paine (December 23, 1776)
As I read this quote from Thomas Paine it seemed so appropriate today..especially since yesterday we rememebered the events of 8 years ago at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and at Shanksville. We are engaged in a war , not against tyranny but against terrorism. Read Paine's quote and substitute Terrorism for Tyranny…it has meaning today. As for the the words summer soldier and sunshine patriot, one can substitute those words with all of those that have been crying ..the war is lost, the surge won't work..or we should just quit this fight.
Many in this country fail to understand the true nature of this war..this is a war that if we lose…we lose our freedoms…The United States of America, as Ronald Reagn stated is the glowing beacon on the hill top. Many around this world find things wrong with us, but oh so many more yearn for our liberties and freedom. Our freedoms have not been obtained cheaply our freedoms have been bought and paid for with the blood of patriots…the blood of our military members, past and present, with the blood of the emergency services personnel that rushed into the World Trade Centers, with the blood of the civilains inside the World Trade Center, the blood of the personnel at the Pentagon, the blood of the passengers on American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175 at the World Trade Center, the blood of the passengers on American Airlines Flight 77 at the Pentagon and the blood of the passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 at Shanksville…"Let's Roll". Each and everyone of these people were not and are not "the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot". These people are true patriots and I thank God each day that I live in a country that has such men and women living in it and dying for it and for the freedoms and liberties that far too many take for granted.
