About Me
The fire service was a family thing, my grandfather, father and brother were members and figured I will be a firefighter some day too. I joined in the early seventies with a company that my father was already an assistant chief, believe me there was no favoritism, I started at the probie level (rookie back then) and worked my way to interior level. Most of the training I gathered was more at the local level at this point. Raised a family and drifted away from the fire service for several years. Speeding ahead, I was asked to join a fire company that was on its last leg. The fire company had already closed its doors and the old timers didn’t take well with that. For the next two years, a dedicated group of us got the fire company back on their feet and prospered well within the community. After some major training efforts, I became an assistant chief and later the chief. After several years, the township put together a group of fire service and community leaders to review the needs of the township. We later merged with three other fire departments after some extensive time and dedication to the cause. I became a deputy for the southern district which is the most rural in the township. My job included the maintenance of the station, apparatus and it’s personel. To this date I remain a deputy and continue my community service that started ohh so many years ago. In my spare time I enjoy the comforts of my family. We raise white tail deer as a hobby. At the present we have quite a herd, Abby is 20 yrs old, we consider her the grandmother of the herd.( Update Sept 8, 09, Abby passed away at the age of 20 years and 2 months and a few days) Yes, of course we have a buck, he is four years old and has a nice rack, the kids like to rub his velvet. In the spring all the kids have an antler hunt. Then there is Bambi. She has had the most personable fawn we ever had. And of course the newest addition is her, Zoie. So that is me in a nut shell :)
