Personal

About Me
I started my career in public safety in 1993 as a PATS operator at VECC. This position patched (via radio) the paramedics in the field to the ER's in the hospitals. (Thats how it was done before cell phones!) That same year I also trained for and became a call taker. In 1995, I became a police dispatcher. I was promoted to fire supervisor in 1997. I had to learn fire dispatching fast, and it's now my passion. During my time as a supervisor, some of my favorite assignments have been being assigned as the community liaison for the deaf and hard of hearing, acting for several years as the Center's emergency planner, being a course instructor for our in-house training department and assisting the State Bureau of Emergency Medical Services re-write the State's Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols. Our Center has 97 full time dispatchers, 10 part time dispatchers, 11 operational supervisors, 2 operational managers, a director and 12 support staff who take care of administrative and technical issues. We use Spillman CAD, VESTA phones and Motorola radios. We also use ProQA through Priority Dispatch. The agencies that we dispatch for are: Bluffdale Fire, Cottonwood Heights Police, Draper Police, Midvale Police and Fire, Murray Police and Fire, Sandy Police and Fire, South Jordan Police and Fire, South Salt Lake Police and Fire, West Jordan Police and Fire, West Valley Police and Fire and the Unified Fire Authority. In 1999, I was approached by the Utah APCO committee to be sub-committee chair for the 2001 National APCO Conference that was held in Salt Lake City. I have been active in the Chapter ever since and am a past president of the Chapter. My crowning accomplishment during my presidency was with the assistance of my executive committee successfully negotiating with the State to fund 9-1-1 education via TV and radio ads, billboards, written communication, and movie preview ads. In 2008 I joined the Critical Incident Stress Management Team that is run through the Utah Department of Health. Our team is made up of mental health professionals and public safety personnel. We are deployed statewide during or after large or traumatic incidents and work with the first responders to ensure they are coping well. I am very excited to be a part of this team as I myself have suffered from PTSD and know first hand how bad it is not to deal with your own mental health. I also became an Incident Dispatcher with Salt Lake Metro Fire Agency's Incident Management Team. The training has been fun, we've done 2 multiple-day deployments that were very educational. We're currently in talks to make our IMT deployable statewide. I have also been a volunteer handicapped parking enforcement officer, went through the Murray Police Citizen's Academy and served on the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Citizen Advisory Board.
