Man Detained After Stolen Plane Crashes by Runway

FREDERICK, Md. – Frederick city police say a plane stolen from a hangar at Frederick Airport crashed into grass by a runway when the pilot lost control.
Officers called to the airport around 2:15 a.m. Monday were told that after the plane crashed, a man who was operating the Piper Super Cub airplane ran from the area.
A man who matched the description of the pilot was found in the woods nearby and police detained him for questioning.
Police say the plane was taken from a nearby hangar without the owner’s authorization.
Police say the investigation is being coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Aviation Administration and Frederick City Airport Management.
