The risk to both men and women of being killed on the job is low, but it’s dramatically higher for men. Of the nearly 5,500 workplace fatalities in 2007, 92% of those killed were men. The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that construction and transportation/warehousing are the two sectors with the highest number of fatalities, but agriculture and mining have the highest rate of worker deaths.
