    this is also done by area oakland is in a three department area fremont and hayward are counted to yonkers couldhave been discounted due to FDNY and other departments around it.

    if Yonkers starts at 68K and Oakland at 80K then i think Oakland is the higher paid dept. they should be on the list but not number 1. it is like someone else said the cost of living isn't accounted for so it really does even out some where

    HI ILMYFF, JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET YOU KNOW MY HUSBAND WORKS IN OAKLAND AND I AM IN RICHMOND. THEY DO MAKE MORE THAN US BUT I AM TELLING HIM AND HE AGREES THAT I WORK WAY HARDER!!!!!!! LOL THANKS FOR THE LOVE!

    I think the Newark-Union, NJ-PA thing is misleading as well. I think the one they mean is Port Authority

    I Think that Firefighters should be among some of the highest paid jobs any where because we are forever savings someones A** and never asking anything for it

    I think they should have Yonkers Fire ( New York) as number 1 .They start at $68,000 plus.

    since vallejo is goin bankrupt the fire and police departments are most likely to have their pay reduced.

    You also have to take the cost of living into consideration. In CA you might be paying close to $5 for gas and $4 for milk. It all evens out in the long run. I still feel the profession as a whole is underpaid, just like police officers.

    I think the above information is wrong, I think the city of Richmond Ca is higher paid then Oakland but I may be wrong. Richmond is the highest crime rate.
