9 Reasons EMS Rules

Emergency responders

In a very basic sense, emergency response is a profession of total selflessness. Being a first responder means giving of yourself, without asking anything in return, and this is what EMS professionals all over the world do every day.

You never know what you’re going to get at the beginning of a shift. You might respond to a cat-in-a-tree call, rescue the critter, and put a smile on a child’s face. You are equally likely to witness death, mutilation, and have blood, sweat, tears (or worse) all over your uniform.

At the end of the day, what matters is that you gave a piece of yourself to people you don’t even know — you helped them no matter how badly they treated you, or how much your back ached, or how many other people needed you, too. And that is a gift very few people are capable of giving.
